The Shipbuilders' Association of Japan (SAJ)

Organization of shipbuilding and ship-repairing companies in Japan with 20 member companies.

Main members
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
Largest heavy machinery company in Japan. Business range from shipbuilding to engines, nuclear energy systems, aerospace, and defense. Playing a central role to develop rockets.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries
Major comprehensive heavy machinery manufacture. Main business lines are shipbuilding, motorcycle manufacturing, railway rolling stock and medium-size gas turbines.
Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries
Tie-up with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding and Kawasaki Heavy Industries in the field of shipbuilding. Top-ranked in aerospace and jet engines for civil aircraft.
Sumitomo Heavy Industries
Integrated manufacturer of industrial machinery, bridges and steel structure as well as speed change and reduction gears. Expanding semiconductor equipment and medical instrument. Spun off shipbuilding division in 2003.
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding
Major shipbuilding and heavy electric machinery manufacturer. Top in marine diesel engines. Subsidized Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair in 2003.
Universal Shipbuilding
Steel maker NKK (now JFE Steel, after being merged with Kawasaki Steel) and Hitachi Zosen integrated their shipbuilding operations in 2002.
The Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA)

Membership of 23 shipbuilders and 11 trading companies. JSEA releases the monthly ship export statistics based on export contracts, permission of entry clearance, and backlog orders of the member companies on its website.

Hitachi Zosen
Manufacturing such products as heavy machinery of waste-to-energy systems, environmental cleaning systems and marine diesel. Separated its shipbuilding division in 2002.
Imabari Shipbuilding
Number of new shipbuilding is one of the largest in Japan, ranging from oil tankers to container carriers to car ferries.
Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA)

Composed of 265 companies of engineering, construction, architecture, and some other industries, ENAA aims to promote the advancement of engineering capabilities and the development of the engineering service industry.

Main members
Leading plant engineering company expanding its business to 70 countries. Strong business lines of oil, petrochemical, LNG and natural gas.
Major comprehensive plant engineering company, mainly to the hydrocarbon and chemical industries.
Toyo Engineering
Belonging to Mitsui group, the company has competitive technology of urea and ammonia fertilizer plant engineering.
The competent authorities
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
It provides information concerning port facilities, harbors, and ships. Also maritime security level is introduced in English.
