A Series of Professional Baseball Entry Bids made by IT Firms

IT firms have become owners of Japanese professional baseball teams. Agreement was reached on November 12 between supermarket giant, Daiei Inc., and a leading telecommunications company, Softbank Corp., on the sale of Fukuoka Daiei Hawks baseball team shares owned by Daiei. Meanwhile, two IT companies, Rakuten, Inc. and Livedoor Co., Ltd. made bids to enter the world of professional baseball. The showdown came to an end on November 2 when a decision was reached for online shopping giant Rakuten to startup a new baseball team based in Sendai City.
