The holding groups of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and UFJ Bank (Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Holdings) announced on August 12 the postponement of the banks' merger until January 1, 2006. The decision, reflecting the need for fuller preparation for integration of computer systems, was made at the instigation of the Financial Services Agency. The merger was originally scheduled to take place in October.
