Mizuho Securities on Dec. 8 mistakenly sold newly-listed shares, resulting in a loss of 30 billion yen ($249 million). The episode led to the Tokyo Stock Exchange's third largest one-day fall this year. Turmoil in the market spread to individual investors. As many as 4,000 postings rushed to Yahoo! Japan's bulletin boards on market shares that day. Some scream-like distressful postings were found, saying "I can't cover shorts. I'm on the edge of bankruptcy!" Also, the response to the issue by the TSE and Mizuho Securities has widely been criticized in the online messages.
