Time-honored camera manufacturer Nikon Corp. is to withdraw from compact-type film camera production. Single-lens reflex cameras are also to be reduced drastically. The decision was made because of sharply decreasing demand for film cameras, as digital cameras became widespread. Japan's major newspapers including Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun concurrently reported on Jan. 13.
