2.3 Million Buildings Suspected as Dangerous

1, 30. 2006

Fragile buildings, riskier than the ones revealed in the falsified quake-resistance scandals, are underlying all over Japan, according to the feature article titled "Falsified Quake-Resistance Triggers Condominium Market Collapse" in the business journal Weekly Economist’s Jan. 31 issue.

The magazine also fears that the case may have a negative impact on the market, quoting a provisional estimate. The calculation claims that the number of dangerous buildings amounts to 2.3 million, out of condominiums and single-family houses built under old quake-resistance standard before 1981.
