The interview stories of Sony Corp's President Ryoji Chubachi were published by Asahi Shimbun and Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) on Mar. 29.
“We improved earnings beyond expectation thanks to an excellent sale for new liquid crystal display (LCD) television,” Chubachi told Nikkei about the coming recovery of the electronics business, which had been stagnant mainly because of television sales struggle. However, he also made a cautious views. “But our reform is still in its early stage,” he said.
In Asahi, he unveiled the plan to increase the productivity for key components. “It is a possible option to build a new LCD plant for large screens as a joint venture with Samsung Electronics Co.,” Chubachi said.
