Long-term Rate Soars, Highest since 1999

The yield of newly-issued 10 year government bonds briefly rose to 2% in the Tokyo bond market on Apr. 18. It recorded the highest for the first time since August 1999.
The yield rate is commonly used as an indicator for long-term rates. They have recently been rising sharply, as analysts see that the Bank of Japan’s zero-interest-rate policy may be scrapped sooner than originally expected.
