Japan’s major fiber manufacturer Toray Industries Inc. concluded a pact to supply carbon fiber for Boeing 787 new-generation jets, it announced on Apr. 25.
Under the deal with Boeing Co., Toray will sell materials for 787’s fuselages, while it previously signed another contract in May 2004 to supply carbon fiber for main wings and tail units. The new deal, worth total of $6 billion (about 700 billion yen), will last until 2021.
Carbon fiber is widely used for large-scale transport machines such as airplanes, as it is lighter and stronger than metal.
