Toyota Motor Corp. exhibited the high-end LS model for its luxury brand Lexus for the first time in Japan on Apr 26. Hybrid-equipped LS600h, LS600hL and gasoline-fueled LS460 were unveiled in a press preview. The hybrids are scheduled for release in spring 2007, and LS460 will debut this September.
The new features include the world’s first 8-speed drive mechanism and air-conditioning system in which temperatures can be set for each seat. Prices and sales targets remained undisclosed.
Lexus was launched in the Japanese market in August 2005. GS, SC and IS have been released so far, but are struggling with their poor sales performance, 80% of the initial target.
“With the launch of (flagship) LS model, we are finally ready to stand at the starting line,” said Executive Vice President Kazuo Okamoto at the press conference.
