Retail gasoline prices simultaneously went up on May 1, according to Nihon Keizai Shimbun’s May 2 edition. In the metropolitan area and Kansai region, regular gas costs per liter mainly rose to 130 yen level, 3 to 10 yen higher from late April. Some prices reached 140 yen.
After the abrupt increase of petroleum, fuelling stations passed the higher cost to the street value.
