Toshiba's recordable drive of HD DVD makes its debut in July.
Toshiba Corp. announced on Jun. 22 to release the recordable drive of HD DVD, next generation DVD, on Jul. 14. The new product, RD-A1, is the first HD DVD recordable drive to be launched in the world.
Single-layer 15-gigabyte disk for HD DVD can record up to 115 minutes of TV programs made in high-definition format. 30GB dual-layer disk can record up to 230 minutes of HD broadcast programs. RD-A1 is also equipped with 1-terabyte, equivalent to 1,000GB, hard disk drive, which can store 130 hours of HD programs at a maximum. RD-A1's suggested retail price is 398,000 yen (tax included).
