NHK will degrade its shortwave broadcasting Radio Japan from Oct. 2007. According to its announcement on July 25, it will discontinue transmissions to North America, Hawaii and Europe. However, transmissions for Russian programs continue. Four out of 22 languages used in Radio Japan will be abolished. French and Spanish language programs will be directed only to Africa and Latin America, respectively. Instead of radio services, NHK will strengthen its television international broadcasting services.
