Hokkaido Railway Co. (JR Hokkaido) announced on January 16, 2007 that it would start operating cars that can run both on railway track and road dubbed “Dual Mode Vehicle (DMV)” from April 14 on a test basis. The DMV cars will run on the 11-kilometer railway route from the Hamakoshimizu station in Koshimizu-cho of the Abashiri district and then return on the 21-kirometer road. It takes about one hour for both way trip. The fare is 1,550 yen for an adult.
