Japan’s GDB will grow 2.3% this year, IMF forecasts

International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised upward its forecast for Japan’s GNP growth rate for 2007 by 0.2 percentage point over the previous forecast in last September to 2.3% in real term, according to its latest world economic forecast made public on April 11, 2007. The forecast for the United States was revised downward by 0.7 percentage point to 2.2%. If these forecasts come true, Japan’s economic growth rate will exceed that of the United States for the first time in 16 years. For 2008, however, the forecast for Japan is lower at 1.9% against than that for the United States of 2.8%.
