SoftBank's sales promotion for mobile phones launched on Second Life
SoftBank Mobile Corp. launched a mobile phone sales promotion on April 12, 2007 jointly with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. on Second Life, the virtual world website created by Linden Lab of the United States. SoftBank and Samsung own SIM, an island named “SoftBank x SAMSUNG (SOFTBANK SLIM JAPAN)”. A virtual shop was opened on SIM to distribute for free mobile phones for the avatars made by Samsung. A person in charge of public relations at SoftBank told J-Cast News that the promotion by using Second Life was part of the sales campaign for mobile phones made by Samsung. “I’m sure we are providing our customers with good opportunities to experience thin-type mobile phones,” he said.
