Toyota overtakes GM in global sales

5, 08. 2007

Toyota Motor Corp. announced on April 24, 2007 that its consolidated global sales during the first quarter of 2007 rose 9.2% on year to 2,348,000 vehicles, surpassing the corresponding sales totalling 2,260,000 vehicles of General Motors Corp. of the United States. It was the first time ever for Toyota to become the world’s largest carmaker in terms of quarterly sales. The Japanese carmaker earlier announced that it planned to sell a total of 9,340,000 vehicles over the world in the whole of 2007. The company is thus believed certain to overtake GM as the world’s largest carmaker in terms of annual sales.
