CPI goes down for three consecutive months

Japan's overall consumer price index, covering all goods except for perishable products, stood at 99.9 in April against the base of 100 in 2005, down 0.1% from the corresponding month of last year, according to the national CPI for the month announced by the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry on May 25, 2007. This means the CPI kept going down for three consecutive months. By items, furniture and house keeping goods represented the widest fall of 1.5%, followed in order by education and entertainment at 1.4% and transportation and communication at 0.6%. The overall index including perishable goods was 100.1, unchanged from the corresponding month of last year.
