Majority use Yahoo! as their main portal

   Some 60.5% of internet users use Yahoo! as their top page (main portal) to search for other websites when they start browsing on the internet, according to a survey conducted by Nikkei Research Inc. on the use of sites as the top pages on personal computers. The second most used portal was Google which is far behind at 8.8% of the respondents to the survey. The users of Yahoo! accounted for a large portion particularly among women in their 20's and 30's at 71.3%. The result of the survey was announced on May 30, 2007. As reasons for using Yahoo! as their main portal, 54.9% replied that "it is easy to search" and 22.0% said "there are many functions to make use of (mail and album functions)". Besides the functional aspects, 48.6% pointed out that they were "simply used to it". The survey was conducted between March15 and March 20, 2007, covering people between 16 and 69 years of ages. Effective respondents numbered 5,312.
