The coincident indicator that shows the current economic condition stood at 66.7%, exceeding the move-or-bust percentage of 50% for the first time in four months, according to the diffusion index (preliminary) for April announced by the Cabinet Office on June 6, 2007.
The indicator was pushed up by six rising indices, including those of the production, mining and industry manufacturing goods shipments, and electricity production. The Cabinet Office adjusted its economic assessment upward for the first time in one year and 11 months from "weak tendency of late" to "advance and retreat". However, the leading indicator which predicts the economic condition months ahead stood at 20%, remaining below 50% for the sixth consecutive month.
