Foreign investors accounted for 60% of share trading in value in Japan in April-June

Foreign investors are playing an increasingly prominent role in Japan's exchange market. Share trading by foreign investors accounted for 61.8% of total in value in the period between April and June, according to share trading in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya announced by the Tokyo Stock Exchange on July 5, 2007. In terms of the number of shares, the trading by foreign investors during the period accounted for 52%. Of the stock trading by Japanese investors in value, trading by corporations accounted for 12.9%, by individual investors for 24.2%, and by securities houses for 1.1%. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper in its July 6 issue that stock trading by foreign investors during the first six months of 2007 accounted for 58.8% in value, representing an increase of 7.3 percentage points over the same period of the previous year, the highest on a six-month basis.
