Hitachi to sell world's first BD compatible video camera

Hitachi, Ltd. announced on July 20, 2007 that it had develped a video camera drive that is compatible with Blu-ray Disc (BD), a next generation DVD format. "Hitachi is studying the possibility of introducing video cameras making use of the new basic technology to the sales competitive time (autumn) of 2007," according to the public relations section of the company. If the new product put on the market, it will be the world's first BD compatible video camera. With the newly developed "8cmBD/DVD drive", BD media has the storage capacity about five times as big as DVD and transfer rate about three times as fast. It will also be mounted with a image sensor with the density of about about 5.3 megapixels, which will be the world's largest.
