The rate for DSL (digital subscriber line) for the internet in Tokyo remained at the lowest level in the world for the sixth consecutive year, according to a survey conducted by the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry on the rate variances between domestic and overseas telecommunications services as of the end of March 2007. The survey results were announced on Aug. 28, 2007. They showed that the monthly rate divided by communications speed, or the rate per 1Mb/s, was about 60 yen in Tokyo against 1,490 yen in New York, 250-600 yen in European cities, and 83 yen in Seoul. The survey covered Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, Dusseldorf and Seoul, and the rates of these cities were compared by using the exchange rate as of the end of March.
