Sega Toys Co. announced on Oct. 9, 2007 that it started selling a dog-shaped pet robot, "Mio", that can express "emotions" by changing icons drawn in the eyes. With more than 100 different patterns of icons, it is capable of expressing 17 types of feelings, such as "happy" , "sad", "hungry", "sick", etc. It can express joy when it is given a piece of "in-between snack" bone into its mouth. It answers in a "Mio language" when it is talked to, and it starts walking "when it would like to". The sales of the robot pet dog is targeted at girls attending elementary and secondary schools, who are in the ages when they usually start showing interest in keeping pets. It comes in two colors of white and purple. The suggested price is 9,240 yen each with taxes.
