Japan has 1.47 million wealthy people. Second largest number in world

   The number of wealthy people who owns 1 million dollars (about 116 million yen) or more of financial assets in Japan reached 1.47 million , the second largest following only to that of the United States, according to a survey announced on Oct. 18, 2007 by the major securities company Merril Lynch and other firms. Japan accounted for about 60% of the total wealthy people in Asia. In terms of increase rates in the numbers of the wealthy people, however, India and China surpassed Japan's 5.1% with 20.5% and 7.8%, respectively.
   The total number of the wealthy people in the world, in the meantime, went up 8.3% to 9.5 million, pushed up by the fast economic expansion of newly developing countries. The number of the wealthy people in Asia increased 8.6%, or about 200,000, in 2006 to 2.6 million.
