Women accounted for an all-time high of 25% of those employed by the central government in fiscal 2007 as first-category "career" officials for office works, the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry announced on Oct. 24, 2007. The women employed numbered 74, eight more than in fiscal 2006. A total of 1,100 women are now employed as national government workers (in three categories), accounting for 30% of the whole.
