About 90% of Japanese people want controls by the government over pornography and other pictures that might be harmful when shown on the internet, according to a survey announced by the Cabinet Office of the government on Oct. 25, 2007. Some 80% also called for "tighter control" over similar pictures in magazines and DVD. More than 90% surveyed replied they would support controls over "simple possession" of child pornography. The government in July established a study group formed by officials from various ministries and other offices to discuss harmful information. Measures, including controls, are expected to be worked out in the course of 2007.
