Riding on the current diet boom, chocolate of high cacao content is selling well. According to a survey announced by the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan, however, such chocolate is also high in calorie and contains high amount of lipid and caffeine.
The survey revealed that the chocolate of high cacao content contains 40.7-53.5% of lipid, or 1.2-1.5 times that for ordinary chocolate. As for calories, the chocolate of high cacao content has 592-655 calories per 100 grams as against 562-571 calories of ordinary chocolate. Some of the high-cacao chocolate was found to contain caffeine about four times more than that of regular chocolate.
