110 billion yen loss from giving up HD-DVD format: Toshiba
3, 26. 2008
Toshiba announced on March 19, 2008 that its consolidated net profit for the term ending in March 2008 was expected to decrease by 9% from the previous term to 125 billion yen.
The company said the decrease was forecast mainly because of a loss seen to amount to 110 billion yen from the termination of the business concerning the next-generation DVD format "HD-DVD."
The company also adjusted downward the sales forecast for the term by 100 billion yen to 7,700 billion yen, representing an 8% rise over the previous term. The sales are affected mainly by price decreases for the "NAND Flash Memory," one of Toshiba's main profit earners.
