NHK should assert national interest in int’l broadcasting: Board chairman

4, 02. 2008

Shigetaka Komori, president and CEO of FujiFilm Holdings Corp. and chairman of the Board of Governors of NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.), is understood to have said at a Board meeting that "NHK should broadcast items that assert Japan's national interest" in its international broadcasting. This was reported by various Japanese newspapers on March 25.

AS opinions were expressed that Komori's remark conflicted with the neutrality of the public broadcasting organization, he explained following the Board meeting held on March 25 by saying that a mere enumeration of opinions would not suffice to operate international broadcasting.
