Apple Computer and the communication systems company Aiphone have reached a settlement over their brand name disputes. The disputes stemmed from Aiphone's claim that Apple's cell phone "iPhone" sounded identical with its brand name of "Aiphone." The settlement stipulates that Aiphone agrees to Apple's use of the brand name in Japan. For areas outside Japan, the two companies agreed that their brand names coexist. The settlement was announced by Aiphone on March 24, 2008.
