The number of Japanese people making trips abroad during the yearend-New Year period (Dec. 23, 2008-Jan. 3, 2009) is likely to decrease by 4.6% to an estimated 580,000 from the corresponding period of a year ago due to the financial crisis and surcharge on airplane fuel, according to a forecast on traveling announced by JTB on Dec. 4, 2008. The number of the Japanese holiday makers to South Korea, however, is expected to rise 24.7% to 91,000, reflecting the rising exchange value of the yen against the declining value of the won. Some 29.32 million Japanese, or about the same number of the people a year ago, are expected to make domestic travels.
