New Prius model takes over proportions of its predecessor
Toyota Motor Corp. is exhibiting the new model of its Prius at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show being held on Jan. 11-25, 2009 in Detroit in the United States.
More than 90% of the overall system of the new model, the third-generation Prius, has been newly developed. The results of the new development include the higher efficiency of the engine and transaxle and the lighter weight and smaller size of the motor. It has a 1.8-liter engine combined with motor and reduction gear.
The solar panel fitted in the roof powers the "solar ventilation system" for cooling the cabin. The new model also has the "remote-controlled air-conditioning system" that can be operated from outside by using a smart-key.
The new model will be put on the market in the middle of May first in Japan, and the sales are expected to be expanded gradually to other countries.
