Elements Necessary for Life Found on Saturn's Moon: University of Tokyo Research Group

3, 15. 2015

A group of scientists from the United States, Europe and the University of Tokyo, Japan, announced that the three major elements necessary for life have been discovered on Saturn's moon. The results were published in the March 12 issue of the British journal Nature.

Enceladus, one of Saturn's moons, is 500 kilometers in diameter and covered by ice. While the existence of an ocean of liquid water and organic matter have been known to exist, NASA's Cassini spacecraft has found new evidence of ongoing hydrothermal activity on Enceladus. This new finding means the discovery of the three major elements for life: liquid water, elements such as carbon, and energy such as heat.
